Seattle — Amazon reported that its Black Friday online sales of Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets grew significantly year over year, and it announced a limited $69 Cyber Monday price on its Fire TV set top box.
The e-commerce giant said Fire tablet sales on Amazon.com were up more than three times year over year this Black Friday, while Kindle e-reader sales almost quadrupled compared to the year ago.
“This holiday there are going to be a lot of customers opening up new Amazon devices,” said Dave Limp, senior VP of Amazon Devices. “We’re energized by the year-over-year growth of tablet and e-reader Black Friday sales on Amazon.com, plus the success of the new product categories we’ve launched this year.”
Meanwhile, Amazon said it will continue to stoke the holiday fires for Cyber Monday afternoon by offering a one-day $69 deal on its popular Fire TV box. That’s a 30 percent savings from the regular price.
Fire TV is a tiny box that plugs into an HDTV for instant access to Netflix, Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, WatchESPN, Showtime, and low-cost video rentals, video games, music, photos and others.
