Washington — XM Satellite Radio reported it added more than 617,000 new subscribers during the third quarter, for a total of just over 5 million.
The gain represents a 48 percent increase in new subscribers over the third quarter in 2004 when XM added 415,000 new subscribers, it said.
President/CEO Hugh Panero said, “During the third quarter, we increased our lead as the number-one satellite radio company by topping five million subscribers, and we expect to surpass six million by the end of the year. This was our best third quarter ever …”
Sirius Satellite Radio reported 1,814,626 subscribers as of June 30, but had not released third-quarter results as of press time.
