Veteran Journalist Jeff Malester Joins TWICE As Business Editor

Longtime trade and business reporter Jeff Malester is joining TWICE as business editor, a new position, effective April 17.

Malester joins TWICE from another Cahners newspaper, Home Textiles Today, where he was managing editor for the past seven years. His responsibilities will include beats that were previously handled by editor-at-large Bob Gerson, who retired on March 31, and senior editor Martha McDonald, who has left TWICE to join etown.com to cover the accessories market.

Malester will be responsible for the Business News and Accessories sections. He will also manage the spring and fall RetailVision Preview and Wrapup editions, and will edit the TWICE CES Daily Bulldog edition.

A journalist with more than two decades of experience covering several retail businesses, this is a homecoming of sorts for Malester, who has worked in the past with several members of the TWICE staff. In addition, during the mid-1980s he was editor of the Electronics/Appliance section of Home Furnishings Daily.

“We are very fortunate to add a journalist of Jeff’s experience and caliber to cover these two critical sections of TWICE and handle two of the special publications we publish,” said TWICE editor-in-chief Steve Smith. Malester will report directly to Smith.

Senior editor Alan Wolf, who will continue to edit the Retailing/E-tailing section, will now assist Appliances editor Cathy Ciccolella in covering major appliances. And senior editor Doug Olenick, who continues to edit the Computer Technology section, will now cover residential telephones.

Greg Tarr, who was named executive editor of TWICE last fall, continues in his role in assisting Smith on day-to-day editorial operations and long-term planning for the paper. He also continues to be responsible for the Video/Home Satellite section of TWICE.
