Concord,
Mass. – TomTom
slashed the price of its turn-by-turn GPS app for the iPhone to $49 from $99
for a limited Christmas promotion that ends December 28.
In addition, the company will launch an app with maps of both the U.S. and Canada at $69 on promotion, said a spokesman.
The app provides street-name guidance for an iPhone or iPod
Touch. TomTom said in October it sold close to 80,000 downloads of the app
since its August launch.
TomTom is also offering a $50 savings on its One 130 portable
navigation device (PND) on its Web site. The device is on special at $99, down from
$149.
TomTom has stated in the past it is seeking to boost its U.S. market
share from approximately 20 percent. The NPD Group ranked TomTom as the No. 2
leading PND supplier behind Garmin and followed by Magellan, Nextar and Mio as
of August.
