Sprint Prices Galaxy Note II, Optimus G

Overland Park, Kan. – Sprint became the first carrier to announce a price and availability date for the Samsung Galaxy Note II tablet/smartphone.

The company also matched AT&T’s price for the LG Optimus G “superphone,” and unveiled plans for a fixed-wireless voice terminal that connects home phones to Sprint’s wireless network.

The Note II and Optimus G will be Sprint’s first LTE devices with quad-core processor.

The Galaxy Note II will be available through Sprint channels on Oct. 25 at $299.99 with two-year service agreement for either the marble white or titanium gray versions.

T-Mobile plans to offer the Note II at an unspecified date in the coming weeks at a price that wasn’t announced.

Beginning Nov. 11, Sprint will make available LG’s quad-core LTE Optimus G at $199. That will follow Optimus G availability through AT&T channels on Nov. 2 at $199. The Optimus G is AT&T’s first quad-core LTE smartphone.

Sprint’s fixed-wireless voice terminal, called Sprint Phone Connect 2, is available free through Sprint’s direct channels with a new line or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement. It offers unlimited calling for $19.99 per month, excluding taxes and surcharges. The device doesn’t deliver wireless broadband to the home.

The device updates a previous model launched last year.

Sprint Phone Connect 2 is compatible with most corded and cordless phones. With cordless-phone systems that support more than one handset, users plug the terminal into the cordless system’s main base station to activate all cordless handsets. Digital phones for use with PBX systems, however, might not be compatible.

The Sprint Phone Connect plan enables users to consolidate phone services into one bill. Users can keep their existing home or office phone number.

Features include·dual-band 800/1,900 MHz CDMA calling, 1,500mAh nickel cadmiun backup battery, assisted GPS/E911 service, caller ID (phone number only), call waiting, three-way calling, call forwarding, voicemail notification, and TTY/TDD compatibility. It measures 6.5 by 4.9 by 1.2 inches.

For its part, the Optimus G features Android 4.0 (Ice Cream sandwich), quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 4.7-inch 15:9 WXGA True HD IPS Plus display with 1,280 by 768 pixels, 32GB of memory, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, nearfield communications (NFC), Mobile High-definition Link (MHL) output, Wi-Fi and DLNA certification.

The Optimus G also features QSlide, which enables the display of two applications simultaneously on one screen, and Live Zooming, which lets users zoom in and out of videos playing back.

The Optimus G delivers longer battery life, a thinner profile and a brighter display compared with previous LG models.

The Galaxy Note II will be Sprint’s first device to launch with Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean), the carrier’s first phone with display larger than 5 inches, and the carrier’s first device to launch with a quad-core processor.

The Note II feature 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED 720p screen, Samsung’s Exynos 1.6GHz quad-core processor, and international voice and data capable compatibility with GSM/UMTS/CDMA networks. The Note II comes with built-in S Pen stylus so users can add handwritten notes or sketches to content for sharing. Also included are an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera with HD video recording.

For enterprise use, the device features enhanced security, device management and Exchange Active Sync capabilities, and it carriers Samsung’s SAFE (Samsung for Enterprise) designation to provide secure syncing with corporate email, calendars, contacts and sensitive information.
