Sanyo Debuts Flash Camcorder

Chatsworth, Calif. — Sanyo will ship a new flash-based camcorder to dealers in April.

The Xacti CG9, for a $279 suggested retail (silver and black), is an MPEG-4 video recorder that can also snap 9-megapixel still images. It uses the H.264 video codec and records VGA/60 fps video. The camera features a 5x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD and simultaneous video/still capture.

It accepts SDHC memory cards up to 32GB and offers face detection, a 5 fps burst up to 10, 2-megapixel images, and image stabilization for both stills and video.

The CG9 can double as a Web cam and offers 40MB of internal memory, a super macro mode, wind reduction microphone and S-Video output.
