Samsung Names Yoon, Shin CEOs

Seoul, South Korea – Samsung Electronics said Thursday it has appointed president Boo-keun Yoon and president J.K. Shin as CEOs of their respective business units at the electronics global giant.

Adding new tandem CEOs gives Samsung Electronics three CEOs. With the move, Vice Chairman Oh-Hyun Kwon will retain his position of CEO and chairman of the board of directors. He will continue to oversee Samsung Electronics’ components business.

The new appointments of Yoon and Shin, who were named CEOs at the company’s annual general shareholders’ meeting, will enhance “independent management of the set and component businesses,” the company said.

Samsung said the new appointments recognize strong global accomplishments under Yoon’s and Shin’s leadership.

As president of Samsung’s TV business Yoon maintained and solidified its global leadership position after becoming global No. 1 in 2006, the company said. As president of the mobile business Shin helped his operations post significant growth to attain a global No.1 position in smartphones in 2011 and in overall mobile phones in 2012.

Yoon will continue his role of overseeing the Consumer Electronics Division, which includes TV and appliance products. Shin will remain in charge of the IT and Mobile Communications Division.

The new leadership structure will serve to clarify and enhance independent management of the two set divisions, as well as the independent management of the set and component businesses.
