Samsung Receives ENERGY STAR Certification For Eleven Cooking Products

The certifications, along with a new energy-efficient launch this spring, are part of Samsung's commitment to greater sustainability

As part of the company’s effort towards energy efficiency, Samsung has announced that 11 of its induction cooking products (one cooktop and 10 ranges) have received the new ENERGY STAR certification for residential electric cooking products by the EPA.

“Cooking products represent the next frontier for residential energy efficiency, with induction technology offering an exciting new way for American households to be part of the clean energy future,” said U.S Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR Products Director Ann Bailey. “If all residential electric cooking tops sold in the United States were ENERGY STAR certified, energy cost savings would grow to $160 million each year, and almost 1.75 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions would be prevented.”

As of December 2023, 72% of Samsung’s appliances are ENERGY STAR certified in categories for which there is a specification. In 2021, Samsung’s Smart Induction Cooktop was also the first cooktop in the industry to be recognized with the EPA Emerging Technology Award for its ability to reduce energy use and lower emissions as one cooks.

As part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), customers will be able to access home appliance rebates for discounts on ENERGY STAR heat pump dryers and cooking appliances, including ranges and cooktops, for states that choose to include these categories. Once states apply for and receive funding to implement these programs, customers can save up to $840 on new appliances depending on the amount of the rebate set by the state and the customer’s income level, which must be less than 150% of area median income – as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development – to qualify.

“At Samsung, we know that a greener future starts at home. Samsung supports the goals of the IRA home rebates to accelerate access to energy-efficient appliances for households of all income levels and to help reduce emissions in the residential sector,” said Mark Newton, Head of Corporate Sustainability for Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung is committed to empowering consumer choice, and we’re proud of the role our company plays in helping families reduce their energy footprint, save money, and make a meaningful impact on the future of their communities.”

Samsung will also be launching new energy-efficient products this spring. This includes Samsung’s energy-efficient induction range, the Bespoke AI Slide-In Induction Range. Through its products, Samsung remains focused on being a sustainable partner and helping consumers reduce their energy consumption. Samsung is also introducing home energy monitoring and management settings into the company’s SmartThings app through SmartThings Energy, which is compatible with over 300 brands and thousands of products.
