Pentax Announces 2 Optio Digicams

Golden, Colo. — Pentax announced two digital compact cameras yesterday: the Optio Z10 with a high-magnification 7x optical zoom lens and the 10-megapixel Optio S10.

The Z10 is equipped with a 7x optical zoom lens, the highest magnification among current Pentax compact digital camera models, according to the company in a release. Engineered with a refraction lens system so the lens “never protrudes from the camera while zooming,” the 7x optical zoom is meant to cover a broad range as well as offer a magnification of up to approximately 35.7x when combined with digital zoom. With 8.0 megapixels, the Optio Z10 also features high-speed detection time face recognition for improved portraits and digital shake-reduction that allows 3200 ISO to capture sharper images in low-light settings. A sliding lens cover is also included for added protection.

The 10-megapixel S10 features digital shake-reduction and a high-speed face-recognition AF and AE function. The camera’s DivX format is designed to let users create high-quality video files that may be played back on a variety of DivX DVD players and other devices.

Both cameras have a $249 suggested retail and will ship in September. Pentax said the S10 will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart.
