Olympus Debuts New Version Of Stylus DigiCam With LCD

Olympus has introduced a new version of its all-weather Stylus digital camera, the Stylus 500, featuring a new design and LCD technology.

The 5-megapixel Stylus 500 features a 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD that features a 215,000-pixel resolution for improved clarity. It offers a start-up time of less than one second.

Like its predecessors, the camera’s body is designed to endure nature’s fury. The exterior is constructed from a lightweight metal with rubber gaskets throughout the interior to ensure that rain, sleet, snow or sand can’t harm the interior.

The camera is PictBridge-enabled and features 23 shooting modes accessible through the menu, including two new underwater shooting modes and two shoot-and-select modes that let users shoot rapid sequences of frames, select the best shot from the series and delete the rest.

It also incorporates the company’s album function for creating up to 12 individual albums of 100 images each on the camera’s xD-Picture Card for display on its LCD screen.

The Stylus 500 also features an all-weather speaker and microphone for recording QuickTime movies with sound or audio clips.

The camera ships in January with an estimated street price of $399.99.
