Melville, N.Y. — Nikon will ship a new AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4 prime lens to dealers in December.
The new lens “closely replicates the visual perspective of the human eye when used with an FX-format d-SLR,” Nikon said.
The 50mm lens can focus on subjects as close as 1.5 feet and offers a silent wave motor. If paired with a DX format Nikon SLR, the lens approximates the effect of a 75mm lens, the company said.
Nikon is celebrating its 75th anniversary of lens production, with a reported 45 million Nikkor lenses produced in that time. According to the company, 5 million lenses were manufactured last year.
The new AF-S Nikkor 50mm lens will retail for $439.
