LG Super-Capacity Fridge Hits Retail

Englewood Cliffs,
N.J. – LG Electronics USA has begun shipping its 31-cubic-foot French-door
refrigerator, touted by the company as the largest in its class.

The 36-inch-wide
model LFX31925 carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail of $2,999.

“Not only is this
the largest-capacity refrigerator we’ve introduced for the standard 36-inch
footprint, but it also includes a variety of freshness features to improve the
overall experience,” said LG marketing VP John Weinstock. “Now consumers have
more space to store their groceries and a way to help keep them fresher longer,
saving them time with fewer trips to the store and offering greater convenience
from the most important appliance in the kitchen.”

LG achieves the
increased capacity by relocating the ice system inside the door, which allows
for usable door bins and a top shelf that’s free of obstructions. The company
also reduced the insulation thickness by 23 percent without sacrificing
effectiveness, LG said.

Other features
include the manufacturer’s Smart Cooling Plus system, which combines a linear
compressor with a dual evaporator, digital sensors, and strategically placed
vents to help provide the optimal humidity and temperature inside the
refrigerator. With fewer moving parts and less friction, the linear compressor
regulates temperature with less noise and energy use, LG said, and surpasses Energy
Star standards by 20 percent.

The fridge also
employs LG’s SmartDiagnosis technology, whose unique tones allow service reps
to troubleshoot mechanical problems over the phone.
