LG: No Plans For Opening U.S. Stores

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — LG Electronics has no plans to open stand-alone showrooms or in-store shops in the U.S.

Despite a reported rollout of additional company stores overseas, and Samsung’s launch of branded mobile shops within Best Buy stores, LG has no plans to open or operate its own retail outlets, LG Electronics USA communications and public affairs VP John Taylor confirmed to TWICE in an email.

According to a published report, LG is looking to open as many as 600 stores this year in Africa, India and the Middle East to help boost its smartphone market share and increase its global CE presence. The manufacturer already maintains some 3,000 showrooms overseas.

Earlier this month Korean CE/majap rival Samsung revealed plans to leverage the traffic in Best Buy stores by rolling out dedicated boutiques chain-wide for its cellphones, tablets, laptops, cameras and accessories, which garnered praise from analysts and investors.
