iBiquity: HD Radio Sales More Than Double

Columbia, Md. –

iBiquity
Digital

estimates that consumer-level sales of HD Radio receivers more than doubled to
1.2 million units in its three fiscal quarters ending June 30, with about
438,000 of those models appearing as standard or optional equipment in
vehicles.

All told, iBiquity estimates that more than 3
million HD Radios are in the hands of consumers, iBiquity Digital president Bob
Struble told TWICE.

He also noted that at least four
FM HD Radio stations are quadcasting four programs simultaneously. The first
was Washington D.C’s WJFK-FM The Fan, which began earlier this year to
simulcast programs from three other sports stations in the CBS network: New
York City’s WFAN AM station, Philadelphia’s WIP AM station and Baltimore’s
WJZ-FM.

Any of the more than 100

HD Radio receivers

available
at retail are capable of tuning into the quadcasts, as well as all car OEM HD
Radios, iBiquity said.
