Stamford, Conn. – Two new A/V receivers shipped by Harman Kardon expand the brand’s selection of AirPlay-enabled A/V receivers and include the brand’s first AVR with embedded Wi-Fi.
Both are also the brand’s first AVRs with 4K by 2K passthrough and upscaling.
The two models, which replace same-price models, are the $799-suggested 7.1-channel AVR 2700 and $999 7.2-channel AVR 3700. Both feature Apple AirPlay, vTuner Internet radio to stream thousands of Internet radio stations, and DLNA 1.5 certification to stream audio from networked sources. The step-up model adds video streaming from networked sources.
Both models also feature 4K upscaling from any video input, two-zone audio, eight HDMI 1.4a inputs, HDMI audio return channel, and Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad USB, which also plays MP3/WMA music from USB drives.
Both also feature Dolby Volume, Dolby ProLogic IIx, and Harman’s Logic 7. Dolby Volume maintains a consistent perceived volume level when switching between audio and video sources, when changing TV channels, and when TV programs transition to commercials. Dolby ProLogicIIx derives a pair of front-height channels from surround sources. And Logic 7 creates 5.1- and 7.1-channel soundfields from two-channel sources.
Both new models also feature Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, on-screen set-up menus, and EzSet/EQ, which automatically sets system parameters and tailors sound to a given room’s acoustical characteristics.
The $999 model adds embedded Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, dual HDMI outputs, second-zone remote, and full preamp outputs. Power output jumps from 7×100 watts to 7×125 watts, two channels driven, from 20Hz-to20kHz with 0.07 percent THD into 8-ohm loads.
Both AVRs can be controlled from free, downloadable HK remote-control apps for Apple and Android smartphones or tablets. That expands the brand’s selection of smartphone/tablet-controlled AVRs to three models.
The two AVRs join the $499 AVR1700, launched in mid-2012 as the brand’s first AirPlay receiver. It was also the brand’s first AVR with iOS and Android remote-control apps, and it also features vTuner and DLNA 1.5 certification.
