Long Beach, Calif. – The relentless drive to pull the digital camera away from the computer-room and incorporate it into the living room continued today as Epson and Planetweb announced a partnership to develop a photo printing solution for DVD players.
According to the companies, the solution will involve embedding Epson printer drivers in Planetweb’s Digital Photo Manager application to give consumers access to photo printing using only their DVD player, television and an Epson printer. Plantetweb is a developer of consumer electronics applications for manufacturers.
Planetweb’s Digital Photo Manager, one of the company’s digital entertainment applications, allows users to view digital images as well as edit, e-mail, print and create slide shows with their photos. The technology has been incorporated in Apex Digital’s DVD players, allowing consumers to view their digital images (stored on CDs) on their televisions.
With Epson’s drivers embedded in Planetweb’s core application, users will, in the near future, be able to print photos from a DVD player on an Epson printer.
