Dell Q2 Revenue Drops 22%

Dell’s

fiscal second-quarter revenue dropped 22 percent to $12.8 billion, but it reported an increase in PC shipments.

Net income for the quarter was down 23 percent to $472 million, from $616 million.

Dell’s consumer segment had a 17 percent year-over-year unit volume increase, which translated into a 2 percent revenue increase, bringing the total to $2.9 billion.

Consumer had a 17 percent year-over-year increase in unit volume and revenue of $2.9 billion, up 2 percent sequentially and a 9 percent decline from a year ago. Operating income was $89 million, including a $53 million benefit from the vendor transaction.

“If current demand trends continue, we expect revenue for the second half of the year to be stronger than the first half,” said Michael Dell, CEO.
