Sharp Taps Weedfald As Senior Sales VP

Mahwah, N.J. – In another in a series of executive shifts at Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America (SEMCA), Sharp has appointed long-time CE executive Peter Weedfald to the newly created position of senior VP of sales.

Weedfald will oversee U.S. and Latin America sales of Sharp consumer products, including TVs, audio and home appliances.

He will start June 1 and report to SEMCA president Jim Sanduski. Weedfald will be based in Mahwah.

For the past seven years, Weedfald was president of Gen One Ventures, consulting in sales, marketing and operations for GE-licensed products and for other CE brands. Before that, he was senior VP and CMO of Circuit City Stores. Before that, he spent five years at Samsung Electronics as senior VP of sales and marketing and CMO.

The change follows earlier year announcements that Mark Viken added product marketing responsibilities to his brand-marketing duties. Viken was VP of brand marketing for audio/video, appliances, health products and air purifiers. He became VP of brand and product marketing for all of the consumer categories and reports to Sanduski.

Also earlier this year, Sharp’s health and environmental solutions group sharpened its focus on the home-center channel with the appointment of Shawn McCarter as its first sales director dedicated to the channel. The group’s products include installed Insight microwave drawer ovens, cabinet-top microwaves, convection microwaves, and Plasmacluster ion air conditioners and air purifiers.

In early January, Sanduski became SEMCA president after serving in that capacity on an interim basis for several weeks upon the departure of John Herrington.
