Issaquah, Wash. — CE continued its summer rebound at Costco, with August comps edging up by the low single digits for the second consecutive month.
The back-to-back electronics gains ended a nearly 18-month-long stretch of soft CE sales at the No. 1 warehouse club.
Costco’s net sales rose 10 percent to $8.8 billion for the four weeks, ended Aug. 31, while total U.S. comps were up 7 percent.
Assistant finance VP Jeff Elliott said comp traffic was up just over 4.5 percent year over year, and average basket, or transaction amount, increased just over 2 percent.
Better-performing categories included small appliances, domestics and furniture, Elliot said.
