Best Buy Celebrates Kentucky DC

Shepherdsville, Ky. – Best
Buy will host a grand-opening event today at its new 600,000-square-foot dot-com
distribution center (DC) here.

The facility, which
became operational in September, provides increased fulfillment capacity for
BestBuy.com, processes returns from stores across the country, and positions
the company for future growth, the retailer said.

Its close proximity to
Louisville, Ky., a major UPS hub where Best Buy also operates Geek Squad City,
its main service center, also allows for a later cutoff for expedited online
orders.

The DC is equipped with a
new state-of-the-art warehouse control system designed to streamline
fulfillment processes. Features include touch-screen technology, dynamic
slotting, continuous order release, improved ergonomics and access, and
improved use of cubing and carton packing. The facility will also eventually support
value-add services such as gift messaging, gift wrapping and shipping activated
products.

A grand opening ceremony is
scheduled for 2:30 p.m. EST this afternoon, after a tour of the facility by
Best Buy executives and local dignitaries.
