Canon Sets ‘Live Learning’ Workshop Dates

Melville, N.Y. — Canon USA revealed Thursday the 2013 Canon Live Learning (CLL) workshops and programs schedule.

The four-year-old on-site education program is aimed at advanced imaging enthusiasts and professionals with seminars on photography and filmmaking using Canon imaging and printing products.

Programs include the EOS Immersion Seminars, EOS Destination Workshops, and Canon Professional Development Seminars and Workshops.

Each of the programs offers hands-on instruction by a number of imaging professionals, including Canon’s Explorers of Light (EOL).

The EOS Immersion Seminar and Workshops are a two-day weekend event. The first half of the 2013 five-city series tour kicked off in Houston on Feb. 23 and will conclude in New York City on June 9.

The CLL programs are available throughout the United States and, as in previous years, the 2013 EOS Immersion series of seminars and workshops will be presented in a weekend format with the EOS Immersion Seminar on Saturday, followed by the choice of two EOS Immersion Workshops on the following Sunday.

The first half of the 2013 Canon EOS Immersion series will take place in the following cities: Los Angeles (March 23-24), Boston (April 20-21), Seattle (May 18-19), and New York (June 8-9).

The EOS Immersion Seminar features a full-day of informative lectures and demonstrations on the latest techniques, configurations and creative insights for Canon digital SLR users. Educational highlights from the full-day session include: essential controls and configurations of an EOS camera for the results users want; essentials of storytelling using the HD video capability of an EOS camera; and understanding the technical and creative potential of the Canon Speedlite system, including its integrated wireless control system.

In addition, the EOS Immersion Seminar will have Canon technical representatives on-site to answer questions about, and assist with using, Canon products.  These technical representatives will also be on-hand to give demonstrations of the Canon EOS imaging products and Canon printers.

The EOS Immersion Seminar is designed to help educate and inform EOS camera owners with a basic-to-advanced understanding of photography. A registration fee of $89 is required to attend the EOS Immersion Seminar.

The Creative Lighting with Speedlites workshop covers creative control of flash equipment in a wide range of locations and situations. Demonstrations are led by professional photographer Jeff Greene and will feature basic flash concepts to multi-flash creative techniques used by professionals. The registration fee is $325.

The EOS HD Video Storytelling: Real Life Techniques workshop offers instruction on video making using Canon’s EOS digital cameras. The hands-on video workshop is led by photojournalist Sharon Levy Freed and highlights the fundamentals of storytelling. Core skills to be covered include camera configuration, the best gear and accessories to maximize the imaging experience, story development, character recognition, sequencing, camera operation and an editing overview. The  registration fee is $325.

The EOS Destination Workshop series offers a two- to four-day experience, where photography enthusiasts and professionals learn both in-the-field from a Canon EOL and through classroom instruction and personal critiques.

Some workshops provide the opportunity to shoot with Canon products against some of America’s most beautiful backdrops, including the waterfalls, mountains and wildlife in the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, the butterflies living within the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Maroon Bells mountains in Aspen.

Canon is offering a destination workshop at Lake Clark National Park in Alaska from July 21-24 and July 24-27.

Canon EOL’s Jennifer Wu will provide lectures, as well as instruction in-the-field to capture the coastal brown bears and other animals of the region against the breathtaking backdrops of Alaska’s mountains and rivers.

Topics of the EOS Destination Workshops vary by class but can include composition, environmental portraits, wildlife and essential techniques of the Canon Speedlite system, and tips for effective lighting control in an outdoor environment. In addition, attendees will be able to print samples of some of their photos to take with them once the workshop has concluded.

The next EOS Destination Workshop is scheduled for April 20-21 at Parish Kohanim Studio in Atlanta. Canon EOL’s Parish Kohanim will guide attendees through a two-day workshop that will clarify a multitude of techniques needed to capture the perfect portrait. The workshop will give attendees a hands-on learning experience during a beautiful time of year when trees, flowers and plants are in bloom and the city of Atlanta becomes a lush botanical garden, Canon said.
