Seoul, South Korea — Samsung Display said Monday that it recently established its first LCD display plant outside of Korea, at a new joint venture factory in Suhou, China.
The Samsung Suzhou LCD (SSL) cooperative operation was first established on April 21, 2011, as a joint venture between Samsung, Suzhou Industrial Park and TCL.
Samsung Display has a 60 percent stake in SSL; Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) has a 30 percent stake, and TCL has a 10 percent stake.
The SSL venture has started fab operations for 48- and 55-inch FullHD and Ultra High-Definition LCD panels “in leading the Chinese premium TV panel market,” Samsung said in a statement.
Kinam Kim, Samsung Display president and CEO, said, “We will continue to strengthen our market edge by embracing a differentiated product strategy with SSL, and providing the world’s best grade of display products as we increase our cost competitiveness.”
A recent plant opening ceremony gathered Kim; Wonkie Chang, Samsung China president; Jiang Hongkun, Suzhou Municipal Committee secretary of the CPC; and Li Dongsheng, TCL chairman and CEO.
