Alvsio, Calif. — Just days after revealing a scaled-down DVR for cord cutters, TiVo introduced Monday a DVR on steroids that it called the TiVo Mega.
The TiVo Mega packs a whopping 24TB of storage (RAID 5 HDD) capacity, capable of holding up to three years of TV programming — 26,000 of SD, 4,000 hours of HD, the company said.
The Mega also includes six tuners; will have whole-home networking capability (Ethernet and MoCA); and will provide universal search capability across cable, video-on-demand and web apps (including YouTube and Netflix).
The device is controlled via a special smart device app, or using the supplied TiVo Slide Pro RF remote with slide-out full QWERTY keypad.
TiVo calls the Mega “the ultimate whole-home solution” that allows viewers to stop worrying about having to delete programs to save space.
The TiVo Mega will be available in the first quarter of 2015 at a price that is expected to be around $5,000, although final pricing is still to be determined.
“Mega is TiVo’s high-end product meant for the ultra-entertainment enthusiast,” the company said in statement.
TiVo plans to demonstrate a prototype next week at CEDIA Expo 2014 in Denver.
Beyond viewing programming on connected TVs, the TiVo Mega also streams live and recorded TV to smartphones and tablets anywhere at anytime.
