Senator: XP Release Should Be Blocked

New York – New York Senator Charles Schumer is considering seeking a court order blocking Microsoft from shipping its XP operating system saying the company should rework the OS so it is more compatible with other applications.

Schumer said at a press conference yesterday these changes should be in place before the antitrust case against the software giant is settled and reported that his office has sent a letter to the Justice Department’s antitrust division asking the suite remain open until the operating system is adjusted to all more access to competitors. Microsoft and the Justice Department have entered preliminary discussions to jump start settlement process.

PC vendors and retailers are banking heavily on XP to boost PC sales in the latter half of the year..
