Ridgefield Park, N.J. - Samsung Electronics said its Samsung Smart Media Player is now available to bring Smart Hub TV apps and services to unconnected TVs.
Samsung model GX-SM530CF, ($149.99 suggested retail), ships with more than 100 Smart Apps including Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, VUDU and YouTube, Samsung said. The Smart Media Player also enables viewers to access cable content without having to pay monthly rental fees associated with a cable box.
With the included remote, viewers can switch between cable content and Internet-based video and social apps available through the device.
“With our new Samsung Smart Media Player, we’re providing consumers with an all-in-one solution that makes the TV-watching experience ‘smarter,’” said Jim Kiczek, Samsung digital audio and video. “This great product brings the Samsung Smart TV experience to any digital TV, giving customers a seamless home entertainment experience that combines live cable content and Smart TV applications all in one device.”
The box is equipped with a CableCARD slot, enabling customers rent a CableCARD from their cable provider to get access to local channels and content to which they are subscribed.
Samsung said the set-top provides significant cost savings over buying a new TV.
A built-in Samsung S-Recommendation feature recommends programs for viewers to watch without surfing channels. The system monitors viewing preferences and becomes smarter over time to provide recommendations viewers will enjoy.
The Samsung Smart Media Player comes with AllShare, which allows sharing content from mobile devices to the TV.
A Screen Mirroring allows customers to easily share video and photos on the big screen from a compatible smartphone or tablet.
