Amy Jo Smith Named DEG President

Los Angeles – Amy Jo Smith has been promoted to president of the digital entertainment industry promotion group the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG), the now 17-year-old association revealed last week.

Smith’s new title reflects “increasing responsibilities as the industry accelerates its transition to emerging technologies that further enhance the consumer entertainment experience,” the DEG said in a statement.

“We are very proud to announce Amy Jo’s much deserved promotion,” said Ron Sanders, president, Warner Bros. Worldwide Home Entertainment Distribution, who now will serve as DEG board chair. “She has always been the driving force behind the DEG, and we continue to entrust her with leading the industry’s many initiatives now and moving forward.”

In addition to promoting Smith, the DEG realigned its Steering Committee positions.

Vice chairs will be David Bishop, President, Sony Pictures Worldwide Home Entertainment, Craig Kornblau, President, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Mike Dunn, President, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Steve Beeks, co-chief operating officer and president, Motion Picture Group, Lionsgate remains chief financial officer. These lead directors are responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the DEG’s agenda, which supports emerging home entertainment platforms. Robert Rose, DEG’s general counsel, also takes over the responsibility of corporate secretary.

Smith, who has steered the DEG as executive director since its inception in 1997, was the recipient of the Visionary Award presented by Home Media Magazine and Hollywood Reporter in 2007.

The DEG was also inducted into the Video Hall of Fame in 2008. Prior to joining the DEG, Smith served as a communications advisor in the Clinton White House.
