Volutone Marking 115 Years In Business

PowerHouse Alliance member reports 2016 was best year on record 3/16/2017 10:30:00 AM Eastern

Volutone, the Southern California and Nevada A/V distributor, is celebrating its 115th year in business.

What’s more, the company reported it had its best year on record in 2016.

First opened in Los Angeles in 1902 by brothers Jack and Nathan Schireson, Volutone got its start selling musical instruments. It later moved into 12-volt car audio and then again into residential A/V in the 1990s. The company transitioned into distribution in the 1950s, with its first distributed product the Sony transitor radio.

It currently operates seven distribution centers and remains under family ownership, with Jack’s great-grandson Trevor Hansen at the helm. Under Hansen, the company has expanded its distribution centers, and added free delivery services and after-hours will-call.

Some of its employees have been with the company for as much as 30 years, Volutone said.

“You don’t make it to 115 years by being complacent,” said Hansen in a statement. “Technology changes rapidly and so does our business. I attribute our success to our willingness to evolve, as well as a dedicated team, and supportive vendor partners and dealers.”

Volutone is a member of the PowerHouse Alliance, a relationship that Volutone also attributes to its long-term success.

“About five years ago, we decided we couldn’t grow by simply being a residential A/V distributor,” said Hansen. “We're grateful for our PowerHouse Alliance membership and owe special thanks to Dennis Holzer for his support in helping us progress and tackle new business.”

“As we celebrate another milestone, we’re grateful to those who have helped us along the way,” added Hansen. “I would like to sincerely thank our employees, customers and vendor partners for their ongoing loyalty and support over the last 115 years!”
