Motorola Launches Cable Modem Gateway

Motorola will introduce several wired and wireless home networking products at International CES this week.

Hitting store shelves in February is the SBG900 Cable Modem Gateway. The unit, $179 suggested retail price, includes an integrated wireless access point, DOCSIS 2.0 compatible modem, USB ports has content filtering, parental controls and security for wireless and wired networks.

The WU830G Wireless USB adapter is expected to ship during the first quarter with a $89 suggested retail price. It can connect any desktop PC or notebook to a wireless network.

Also shipping during the first quarter is the WPS870 Wireless Print Server. It allows multiple printers to be connected to a home or small office network. It will carry a $99 suggested retail price.

In the home automation and monitoring category, Motorola will show the Media Station 1000. This is a next generation Internet Protocol-based device that supports home monitoring allowing users, through the Internet, to access and control their home’s thermostat, lighting and select home appliances. It also allows the remote viewing of a house’s security camera systems. The Media Station 1000 is likely to be sold through the Shell HomeGenie Service sometime during the first half of 2004. A suggested retail price was not listed.
