First 12-Volt PIP Monitor

GARDENA, CALIF. — Clarion said it is shipping the industry's first overhead monitor with picture in picture (PIP) and split screen capability. The new monitors enable two passengers to simultaneously watch two different program sources on the same screen. "They have dual IR headphones, so one can be on channel A watching cartoons and the other on channel B playing video games or watching a DVD," said Clarion product category manager Jerry Bedoy. The models OHM102 and OHM153, in 10.2 inches and 15.3 inches, are shipping now at $999.99 and 1,499.99, respectively.

Rosen is also shipping a new overhead monitor — the model A8 All-in-One with built-in DVD. The A8 is an 8-inch version of the A9 overhead, introduced at SEMA, which has a motorized, remote-controlled screen and supports MP3 and simulated surround sound, as well as JPEG and MPEG viewing. The unit also has a tapered pod, designed to blend in with the car's interior, and it is shipping now at $1,799 installed.
