JVC Mobile announced the first plug-and-play HD-Radio receiver that can shuffle between the home and car without requiring professional installation.

The JVC KT-HDP1 can work with most existing radios to provide HD-Radio multicast reception. The AM/FM/HD-Radio unit is shipping now to Best Buy and will carry a suggested retail of $129 plus $49 each for the do-it-yourself home and car kits. A $39 kit is also available for users who prefer professional installation.

JVC said it expects to offer several additional HD-Radio products over the next 18 months including new models to be shown at the upcoming International CES in January.

Other features of the KT-HDP1 include a built-in FM modulator, five-way navigation keys, white backlight and blue key illumination and HD-Radio scan and seek.

Visteon also offers a transportable HD-Radio receiver but it requires professional installation.

Other retailers are expected to carry the KT-HDP1 in addition to Best Buy, said JVC.
