JVC Releases FDA-Cleared OTC Hearing Aid

Bluetooth-enables JVC EH-Z1500 feature in-app hearing tests and support

A new over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid is being made available by JVCKENWOOD. Jointly developed with hearing health specialists Intricon and hearing aid technology company Tuned Ltd., the JVC EH-Z1500 Bluetooth-enabled hearing aid is FDA-cleared and offer a self-fitting experience.

The JVC EH-Z1500 are tuned to the user’s personalized hearing profile via an in-app hearing check, and the app also provides live support from hearing professionals.  The newly approved app-powered hearing aid solution combines audiology and psychology to enhance user engagement, motivation, and education, optimizing the efficacy of their hearing aid experience while minimizing product-related issues and service costs.

The Tuned app, winner of the 2023 Hearing Technology Innovator award by Hearing Health & Technology Matters, guides users through the entire setup, driven by the world’s first patented artificial intelligence (AI) Hearing Assistant. Developed by a team of audiologists specializing in hearing aid fitting and audiologic rehabilitation, the Hearing Assistant gives users 24/7 access to top-level knowledge and service. Using the Bluetooth-connected app, users complete the in-app hearing evaluation and the app automatically tailors the hearing aids to each user’s specific needs.

The Tuned app supports customers through the entire acclimatization process using advanced AI technology, offering a series of daily goals and lessons to help users make the most out of their hearing aids, including tips and instructional videos. Hearing aid volume, programs and settings are easily adjusted via the app, which for some users and in some situations will be more convenient than using the controls on the hearing aids.

The JVC EH-Z1500 self-fitting OTC hearing aids are available now for $999.95.
