Banshee Bows 'First' All-In-One 5.0 Surround Sound iPod Listening Station

-- TWICE, 3/27/2006

Chicago— Banshee Audio is introducing what it calls the first all-in-one 5.0 surround sound listening station for iPods, MP3 players and PSPs.

What the company calls an audio breakthrough, the Banshee desktop speaker system generates surround sound from five individual speakers incorporated within a single, relatively small desktop speaker. As a result, the company said it provides “remarkable sound precision, clarity and realism.”

The desktop speaker uses “decoder technology” to produce surround sound in a desk system that eliminates the need for the numerous wires and speakers normally associated with surround sound systems.

The system, which measures about 11.5 inches long by 3 inches wide by 6 inches deep, produces 50 watts of power. The desktop speaker includes a remote cradle that allows for ease of access to iPods, MP3 players and PSPs. This configuration is said to eliminate the need for the listener to be in close proximity to the speaker.

Suggested retail is $149, and the unit is scheduled for May availability.
