KWIKSET CAPTURES “GOOD DESIGN” AWARD FROM CHICAGO ATHENAEUM

LAKE FOREST, CA Kwikset brand of Spectrum Brands, Inc. – Hardware and Home Improvement Division, the leader in residential security, announces that the company and its SmartCode™ 916 Touchscreen Electronic Deadbolt have received a prestigious 2015 “GOOD DESIGN” award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Founded in 1950, GOOD DESIGN is the oldest and one of the world’s most recognized programs for design excellence.  For 2015, the Museum received submissions from several thousand of the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms representing influential corporations from over 47 countries.

Kwikset’s SmartCode locks with Home Connect™ technology are the industry’s leading wireless, access control lock solution.  The SmartCode 916 Touchscreen Electronic Deadbolt provides all the features of Kwikset’s highly popular SmartCode™ 914 deadbolt lock – including keyless entry – combined with the added convenience and enhanced aesthetics of a capacitive touchscreen.  Users can activate the SmartCode 916 Touchscreen with the touch of a finger.

The touchscreen is very responsive, sensing contact quickly for fast code entry.  Plus, the screen will auto-detect a correct code and quickly unlock.  The SmartCode 916’s SecureScreen™Technology helps mask “smudge” attacks, in which passcodes can potentially be jeopardized by detecting frequently used numbers from the oily residues on the touchscreen surface.

Said Keith Brandon, divisional vice president of Residential Access Solutions, Spectrum Brands, Inc. – Hardware and Home Improvement Division, “We are thrilled to receive one of the world’s most prestigious design awards from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum.  This GOOD DESIGN award for our SmartCode lock speaks to Kwikset’s dedication to producing industry-leading products that combine innovative design with groundbreaking function.”

All awards are posted on the Museum’s website at chi-athenaeum.org and www.europeanarch.eu.
