HARRISBURG, PA. –
D&H Distributing is reminding its retail customers to take advantage of upcoming gift-giving holidays and sporting events to gain incremental sales.
By marketing mobile devices, HDTVs and IPTVs, and home entertainment technologies as items that enhance these seasonal events, retailers may be able to tempt consumers to upgrade their media rooms for the big tournament, or trade up their loved ones’ personal electronics as gifts, the national distributor said.
For example, large, Internet- connected TVs that may be in demand for March Madness events can be bundled with merchandise like drink blenders, gaming consoles, popcorn makers and beverage fridges into game-day party packages. Manufacturers and retailers used similar strategies this year with the Super Bowl, offering special promotions to entice fans to upgrade their sets, the company noted.
For upcoming gift-exchanging holidays such as Valentine’s Day or even Mother’s Day, retailers can market such devices as phones, tablets or cameras as gift ideas, since consumer electronics has become one of the topgifting categories, D&H said. Phones, cameras and MP3 players are readily available in holiday theme colors like red and pink, making for a colorful retail display and a tempting option for consumers on the look-out for the perfect present.
“We try to keep our retailers aware of opportunities to pull in extra sales, and utilizing a calendar of special occasions is an easy way to pique people’s interest and get them buying,” said John Alifano, director of D&H’s consumer products division. “With a little clever marketing, retailers can use these events to get the consumer thinking about a personal electronics or home entertainment refresh in ways they might not have considered otherwise.”
