Amazon has supplemented its Prime Music streaming service with a new program that offers “tens of millions of songs” for $10/month, upping the competitive ante with Apple, Spotify and other on-demand providers.
Prime loyalty-program members, who can already stream more than 2 million tunes at no extra charge as part of their $99/year dues, can subscribe to the new Amazon Music Unlimited service at a discounted rate of $8/month or $79/year (which works out to $6.58/month).The company is also planning a family subscription plan that will allow up to six listeners access for $15/month or $149/year.
Not surprisingly, the new service readily syncs with Echo, Amazon’s wireless speaker and smart-home hub, and its virtual cyber assistant Alexa. Indeed, Amazon is also offering an Echoonly subscription of $4/month, which provides Unlimited access through a single Echo, Dot or Tap speaker.
