Irvine, Calif. – Vizio has begun shipping its first Ultra HD TV line.
The competitively-priced P-Series, first shown at International CES 2014, offers full-array smart LED displays with local backlight dimming across 72 zones and support for Ultra HD streaming.
The sets come in five screen sizes and price steps, beginning at a $1,000 suggested retail for the 50-inch model, and progressing to 55 inches ($1,400); 60 inches ($1,700); 65 inches ($2,200); and 70 inches ($2,500).
The TVs are equipped with the HEVC H.265 codec and 802.11 ac dual-band WiFi, which will allow them to stream native UHD content wirelessly from Netflix and, later this year, Amazon Instant Video and UltraFlix.
The P-Series also features HDCP 2.2 support for playback of protected Ultra HD content; HDMI 2.0 ports; a 240Hz refresh rate; and a six-core processor and dedicated motion and picture-processing engine.
“This combination of technologies leaves consumers with the solutions that matter most in an Ultra HD set,” said Vizio chief technology officer Matt McRae. “The shift towards 4K has left consumers demanding new solutions that deliver the right innovations to enhance their viewing experience.”
Vizio has begun shipping the line to retailers including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Costco, Sam’s Club, Target and Walmart. The company is also taking direct-sale pre-orders at Vizio.com for delivery within 30 days.
A forthcoming top-of-the-line 4K Reference Series is still on deck.
