Tops Expands Store Roster And Web Site

Tops Appliance City, the New York metro area superstore, has expanded its presence in both physical and cyber space.

On the brick-and-mortar front, the retailer opened its 10th megastore over the weekend. The 40,000 square foot unit, located in Brooklyn, was designed to highlight housewares, furniture and bedding, three higher-margin product segments that are “in line with our strategy of seeking products and categories that will maximize Tops’ overall profitability,” said CEO Richard Jones.

The store will also feature Tops’ new Kitchen Place showroom concept following its pending acquisition of the leased space retailer later this month.

Meanwhile, Tops unveiled a revamped version of electronics.net, the retailer’s joint e-commerce venture with Cybershop. The new, improved site was redesigned for easier navigation, faster download times and additional product categories, including a new seasonal section that currently features over 125 in-stock air conditioner models.

Tops ranked 59th on this year’s TWICE Top 100 Retail Registry, with annual sales of $144 million.
