Sony Bows Next-Generation Glasstron

Sony introduced its next-generation Glasstron A/V eyewear, which is said to be lighter, more stylish and less expensive than previous versions.

Model PLM-A35 will produce a virtual large-screen video display, which appears as a 62″ screen, viewed from 6.5 feet away. Though it will connect to a wide variety of sources, Sony said it is ideally suited to mobile video sources such as video game players, camcorders and personal DVD devices.

“Futuristic, metallic-blue” styling is designed to make the eyewear resemble sunglasses more than virtual reality headgear.

The Sony Glasstron PLM-A35 will be available in November at a $599 suggested retail price. It is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery, which can be monitored for power consumption through the eyewear.
