BOOX has introduced a new accessory aimed at making ePaper reading more convenient. Called the BOOX Tappy, the wireless page turner allows users to navigate content without touching the display, providing hands-free page turning, scrolling, and media controls for compatible devices.
The accessory connects via Bluetooth and is designed to work with BOOX ePaper tablets and other supported reading applications. Users can turn pages, scroll through articles, or control audio playback using the device’s onboard buttons.
Tappy includes three operating modes that can be changed by holding both buttons for five seconds.
In Reading Mode, users can move forward and backward through pages in supported eBook applications. Browsing Mode is designed for websites, news articles, and other vertically scrolling content, allowing users to scroll without interacting directly with the screen. Multimedia Mode adds basic media controls, including track skipping for audiobooks and music playback.
According to BOOX, the accessory is intended to reduce the need to reach for the display while reading, which may be particularly useful during long reading sessions or when using a tablet from a distance.
The device pairs wirelessly over Bluetooth and features a rechargeable battery with USB-C charging. BOOX says a single charge can provide several weeks of use, though the company has not specified battery-life estimates. An integrated indicator light provides status information for pairing, mode changes, and battery alerts.
The introduction of accessories such as Tappy reflects the growing ecosystem surrounding dedicated ePaper devices. As manufacturers continue to position ePaper tablets as alternatives to traditional tablets for reading and note-taking, accessories that improve comfort and accessibility are becoming a larger part of the category.
