Qualcomm Adds Speech-To-Text To Smart Watch

San Diego – Qualcomm has added speech-to-text conversion to its Toq (pronounced “talk”) smart watch, enabling users to create or respond to text messages by voice.

The smart watch became available last December at $349 on Qualcomm’s web site. Sales have been expanded to Amazon, and the price is now $249.

The Toq Talk feature requires the latest version of the Toq Android app (version 1.5) installed on a paired Android phone. The app uses Nuance speech-to-text technology.

Qualcomm’s touts the smart watch’s proprietary Mirasol color touchscreen, which is visible in direct sunlight and reduces batter drain to allow for up to five days of use. The Toq features on-board mic and speaker for phone calling.

The device also manages smartphone calls and displays email, text messages, and social media notifications. It also displays calendar items, controls the playback of smartphone-stored music, and displays weather and stock data. A beta app allows for the display of daily activity information obtained from body sensors.
