Bird Buddy Introduces Smart Hummingbird Feeder

Release follows a successful $3 million Kickstarter campaign

Bird Buddy, the company behind the Smart Bird Feeder, is expanding its lineup with the Smart Hummingbird Feeder. For the first time, bird enthusiasts can now view close-up images and live streams of hummingbirds in their own backyard. The Smart Hummingbird Feeder uses the same built-in AI and camera module technology as the Smart Bird Feeder to recognize over 360 hummingbird species, cataloging them to document the user’s backyard biodiversity.

“Hummingbirds are true entertainers, providing delight and joy each time they are seen. They are universally popular especially in the Bird Buddy community who routinely asked for this product. Acting on this demand, we have made it possible for everyone to closely interact with these beautiful avians, deepening connections with these vibrant travelers and simply enjoying the ton of fun they bring. Through our testing, we have seen, first hand, how entertaining hummingbirds are at the feeder, and the excitement their arrival brings. They also do their bit for biodiversity, bringing other pollinators and insects to backyards too. It’s a true lens on nature daily,” comments CEO of Bird Buddy, Franci Zidar.

First revealed at CES 2023, Bird Buddy’s Smart Hummingbird Feeder went on to deliver the Tech for Nature startup’s second successful Kickstarter campaign with over $3million raised. The feeder comes with or without a solar roof, using the same Bird Buddy camera module with 5 megapixels and HD video, a 120° field of view and built-in microphone which allows existing users the option to swap their camera between feeders, The feeding ports have been specifically designed to reflect the hummingbirds natural choice of flower and color, red in the shape of a lily. The two part feeding base easily snaps together with a seal to prevent mold and leakages as well as for ease of cleaning. From today, hummingbird fans can order directly with an anticipated May 2024 delivery date in time for their migration season.

As part of its commitment to making nature accessible for all, Bird Buddy launched Bid Buddy Explore in September 2023. Using their free-to-download app, those who do not have access to a back yard or their own Smart Bird Feeder can enjoy the Bird Buddy experience and wonder at birds from across the world connecting to units with carefully selected partners. Avid fans can also purchase Bird Buddy merchandise directly from the website with those in the US able to subscribe to Bird Buddy Seeds, a seasonal curated range of bird food for the feeder.

Since shipping first started in September 2023, over a quarter of a million Smart Bird Feeders are in use across the globe. During that time, Bird Buddy’s Smart Bird Feeder has been recognized as one of TIME’s Best Inventions 2023, included in Google’s Holiday Hot 100 and awarded SXSW Innovation Award for AI 2023.
