SmartThings, Eve Energy Collaborate For Appliance Power Management

Collaboration with Matter fosters cross-platform compatibility

SmartThings, Samsung’s smart home platform, has announced a collaboration with Eve Systems for Android phone users to monitor major and small appliance power consumption and potentially save money on their utility bills and reduce their carbon footprint.

Consumers will need to plug each of their appliances, Samsung or not, into a Matter-compatible Eve Energy smart plug ($39.95). Energy usage can then be monitored and tracked through the iOS or Android Samsung SmartThings app to calculate power usage and monthly costs. To help optimize or reduce power usage and save money, consumers can create automation routines and set timers to streamline daily tasks.

“In a world where smart homes are becoming increasingly complex, our mission at SmartThings is to make it simple for users to manage their devices and reduce energy consumption,” says Mark Benson, head of SmartThings U.S. “This integration of the Eve Energy Plug into the SmartThings ecosystem is a major step toward that goal – empowering consumers with the data they need to make the most energy-efficient decisions.”

According to both companies, the SmartThings-Eve Energy compatibility with Matter fosters cross-platform compatibility and makes energy savings accessible to a wider range of consumers.

Built on Thread, Eve Energy smart plugs connect directly to compatible SmartThings hubs and, therefore, work right out of the box. And since Matter is designed to work on a local wireless network with no cloud connection necessary, Eve Energy does not require registration and there’s no usage tracking.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with SmartThings to expand the app’s power monitoring features to a Matter smart plug for the first time,” echoes Jerome Gackel, CEO of Eve Systems, first established in 1999 as Elgato. “The benefits for consumers are immense because reducing the cost and environmental impact of your energy usage always begins with tracking consumption.”

Eve Energy smart plug power monitoring and control is already available for iPhone and iPad through Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem and app or via the iOS Eve Energy app. The Eve Energy smart plug is also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri voice commands.
