LG Drops OLED Prices For Super Bowl

Company launches limited-time promo on last year’s B8 series.

LG Electronics USA is turning back the clock to Black Friday for next month’s Super Bowl LIII.

That’s because it’s offering Black Friday-like discounts on its 2018 B8 OLED 4K Ultra HD TV line now through Feb. 2, the day before the Big Game.

The limited-time promotion reduces the suggested retail of the 55-inch model from its debut price of $2,300 to $1,500, and cuts the original retail of the 65-inch display by $1,000, to $2,300. LG said the prices are the lowest ever for its OLED TVs.

“If you can’t be at the big game, there is no better way to enjoy it than on an LG OLED TV,” said Tim Alessi, head of home entertainment product marketing. “We are very excited to offer consumers a chance to elevate their experience with this limited-time promotion on our stunning LG OLED B8 TV.”

The B8 series, like all 2018 LG OLEDs, boasts more than 8 million pixels; supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG; features LG’s ThinQ A.I. platform; and comes with Google Assistant on board.

The promotion follows word of sharply competitive retails from Samsung for its 2019 line of 8K TVs, with its 65-inch model hitting a sub-$5,000 price point.

Super Bowl, a traditional tent-pole event for TV sales, will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, in Atlanta. The Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints are the odds-on favorite contenders, and will respectively take on the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams this Sunday to determine next month’s face off.
