Irvine, Calif. – Consumers will be able to control Insteon home-automation systems from an Apple Watch available in the iTunes Store, the company announced.

With the launch of Insteon’s Apple Watch app, consumers can control Insteon electrical outlets, light switches and dimmers, plug-in modules for lamps and appliances, thermostats, ceiling fan controllers, garage-door controllers, and scenes from their Apple Watch. The Watch will also display live security-camera video and receive alerts from motion, door/window, smoke/CO2, and water-leak sensors.

Insteon hasn’t developed an app for other brands of smart watches.

Insteon is among the first home-automation companies to field an Apple Watch app. “If a phone is buried in your pocket or purse, you might miss an alert warning you that someone has just opened your garage, or that your sink has just sprung a leak,” said Insteon CEO Joe Dada of the advantages of the Watch app.

Insteon offers more than 200 home-automation products.
