GE Adds Google Assistant To Smart Appliance Line

After entering the voice-control waters last fall by pairing up with Amazon Alexa, GE Appliances has now integrated its line of connected appliances with Google Assistant.

The hookup is the first of several smart-appliance announcements expected today out of Google’s I/O developer conference in Mountain View, Calif.

Effective immediately, the majap maker’s entire assortment of smart appliances can be controlled by barking commands into a Google Home Wi-Fi speaker or comparable Assistant-enabled device using the manufacturer’s Geneva Home skill. Remotely-requested tasks include pre-heating an oven or setting a timer, and checking on the status of a laundry load or dishwasher cycle.

“Everyone’s busy these days and our consumers are looking for simpler and more convenient ways to control their home, especially when busy in the kitchen or working around the house,” said Liz VerSchure, the GE VP responsible for the company’s connected strategy. “Integrating our full suite of connected appliances with the Google Assistant makes it easier for owners to control their appliances and get on with their day.”

Besides the Amazon and Google AI platforms, GE’s smart appliances are compliant with Nest Labs, Drop, IFTTT and Amazon’s Dash replenishment system, which can automatically reorder dryer sheets and detergent when it determines that supplies are low.
