Ford Extends Apple’s Siri Eyes Free To 2011-2016 Vehicles

Ford is bringing Apple’s Siri Eyes Free capability to Sync-equipped Ford vehicles dating back to the 2011 model year via a software update.

Sync, Ford’s infotainment system, has not offered Siri Eyes Free until this summer’s launch of Sync 3, which is replacing the previous Sync version and will migrate to all Ford vehicles over the next year, a spokesperson told TWICE.

More than 12 million vehicles on the road incorporate some version of Sync.

The software update is available for vehicles equipped with second-generation Sync, also called MyFord Touch, for model years 2011 to 2016. The update is available at http://owner.ford.com/

Siri Eyes-Free lets drivers activate a connected iPhone’s Siri digital assistant via a long press of the voice-recognition button on the steering wheel. Drivers then use their voice to make requests, such as calling people in their phone’s contact list, looking up phone numbers for points of interest, setting a reminder or alarm, asking for the weather forecast, selecting and playing music, getting directions through Apple Maps, listening to text messages via text-sto-speec conversion, and dictating text messages by voice.

The new software update is available for vehicles equipped with the second generation of SYNC, known as MyFord Touch in North America, ranging from model years 2011 to 2016.
