Arlington, Va. – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will make the High-Resolution Audio (HRA) logo developed by the Japan Audio Society (JAS) available for use by CEA members, allowing for a single worldwide logo to identify consumer products that deliver high-res performance.
CEA will promote the logo to members and consumers.
The collaboration will enable non-Japanese suppliers who are CEA members to use the logo on hardware that meets minimum 96kHz/24-bit performance requirements, including speakers and headphones. The logo is already used by such Japanese companies as Sony, Pioneer, Teac, Onkyo, and Audio-Technica.
“Having a common logo will help establish consistency and assist consumers in navigating this exciting, steadily emerging market,” said CEA president/CEO Gary Shapiro.
CEA will make the logo available to members via a licensing agreement for use in product promotions, advertising and merchandising efforts. CEA will also promote the HRA logo at the 2015 International CES and throughout the year. As part of the deal, CEA and logo licensees will follow HRA product guidelines and performance requirements specified by JAS. Products will undergo performance testing to certify eligibility to use the logo.
CEA said it will leverage its media relations and marketing tools, plus its online presence and social media properties, to promote the logo to CEA members and encourage consumers to look for the logo when they’re shopping for HRA devices and music.
In June, CEA, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group, and The Recording Academy announced a formal definition for high-resolution music, not for hardware, in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.
