Capitol Spotlights Connected Home At CEDIA 2016

Installer-focused distributor Capitol is focusing on the connected home market at this year’s CEDIA.

Video will be one of the most prevalent categories in Capitol’s booth (No. 5732), with TCL and Sharp both featuring their latest 4K consumer TV models, while LG Commercial will be represented by products that are tailored to indoor and outdoor presentations and commercial applications.

The audio category will be highlighted by Denon’s Heos system. Heos is an app-based Bluetooth or Wi-Fi-connected distributed audio system that gives users get multiroom audio control from their portable device. It also allows streaming Bluetooth content from one speaker to other speakers over the Wi-Fi network and add one new Heos HS2 device to an existing Heos product without concern of compatibility issues.

IP network supplier Luxul will also be an important part of Capitol’s CEDIA lineup, the distributor said. Luxul offers simple-to-deploy professional grade IP networking solutions for use by custom installation professionals. URC Total Control remotes, which can be used to control multiple connected home systems such as lighting and climate will also be featured.

The distributor will also offer connected home classes for installers, taught by Capitol’s Mike Marko. Topics include:

• Commercial Audio Systems: An introduction to leveraging residential experience in the light commercial channel (Sept. 16, 9:00 a.m – 10:30 a.m.);

• Connected Home Integration: In which Marko highlights the most relevant connected home products affecting the CI market today. (Sept. 16, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.);

• Networking Basics for the Beginner: With a focus on both wired and wireless networks, this course includes terminology, components and when and where to deploy VPNs, access points, guest networks and other services. (Sept. 16, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m); and

• Surveillance with IP Cameras & NVR Networking: A detailed overview of the products and technologies that help clients view their home or business from a smartphone, tablet or laptop. (Sept. 16, 3:30 p.m – 5:00 p.m)

“The IoT is having a tremendous effect on the custom market,” commented Curt Hayes, Capitol’s president and CFO. “We’re at a point where nearly every home control, entertainment, security and major appliances all communicate over a robust home network. Our job is to give Capitol’s customers the most lucrative product options and expert education, and nowhere is that more important than at the CEDIA Expo.”
