New York — Warranty Hotel has released an open application programming interface (API) for retailers to support market-wide adoption of its namesake warranty and loyalty program storage platform.

The company’s flagship Warranty Hotel Standard allows consumers and retailers to organize and track their extended warranty contracts, receipts, repair records, proofs-of-purchase and loyalty rewards programs online.

The platform, which can be integrated into point-of-sale systems and e-commerce shopping carts, utilizes a unique warranty QR code that is imprinted on applicable receipts from participating retailers. The program covers point-of-sale through lifetime product ownership, and offers retailers and consumers such features as automated warranty transfer to a third party/secondary product owner.

The online platform, and recently introduced companion mobile apps for Android and iOS, can also:

  • support retailer-branded loyalty programs;
  • locate warranty certificates, receipts and proofs-of-purchase;
  • scan and store an unlimited number of warranties free of charge using a smartphone camera;
  • find store locations;
  •  initiate a product repair; and
  • assign return merchandise authorizations (RMAs).

Warranty Hotel said its program can create new revenue opportunities around extended warranties and retail offers, and can be customized to meet the retailer’s specific requirements, the company said.

According to a spokesperson, Warranty Hotel is currently working with Global Warranty Group to implement a beta test with some of its dealers before rolling out a dealer-wide program. 

“Retailers spend significant resources fielding customer queries and complaints with respect to warranty terms and conditions and lost product warranties or receipts,” said Carsten Wulff, partner management director for LS Retail, which is integrating Warranty Hotel into its end-to-end POS solutions and services for 2,000 retailers with 39,000 stores worldwide. “The Warranty Hotel platform provides a streamlined and efficient solution to this problem, along with a cost-effective aftermarket warranty solution for both large and small retailers. We are an early adopter of Warranty Hotel and have very high expectations about the service.”
