U.S. Cellular Launches Motorola Smartphones

Chicago – U.S.
Cellular launched its first Android 4.0 smartphone and first ruggedized Android
smartphone, both from Google-owned Motorola.

Both phones are 3G
models.

The Electrify 2,
which replaces a first-generation Electrify, is available today at $199 after
$100 mail-in rebate but, for a limited time, will be available at $179 after
$100 mail-in rebate in select markets. The ruggedized DEFY XT, available Aug.
3, will retail for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate.

Compared to its
predecessor, the Electrify 2 adds Android 4.0 in lieu of Android 2.3, a
dual-core 1.2GHz processor instead of a dual-core 1GHz, ColorBoost technology
to the 4.3-inch display, 1080p capture to the 8-megapixel rear camera, Kevlar
rear cover, splash-guard coating, 1,780 mAh battery instead of 1,700 mAh, and
Motorola’ Smartactions.

Smartcactions is a
Motorola app that helps extend battery life, automate routine tasks and suggest
ways to personalize a phone. The Electrify 2 is the carrier’s first device with
the Smartactions app.

The phone is also slimmer, at 0.33 inches vs.
0.48 inches.

The Defy XT with scratch-resistant
3.7-inch touchscreen is promoted as water-resistant and dust-proof. Features
include 5-megapixel camera, front-facing webcam for video chats, and customizable
activity dashboards to access such functions as integrated compass, pedometer,
music player and weather.
